2010 UICB building information award granted to Jukka Karila

The International Union of Building Centres (UICB) established a UICB building information (information exchange) award in 1978 to promote functioning communications within the building industry. The Building Information Foundation in Finland grants the award every other year in recognition of a person, group or organization whose actions have significantly influenced the development of high-quality information exchange within the building industry.
The board of directors of the Building Information Foundation unanimously decided to grant the 2010 UICB building information award to the Radio Suomi “Rakentajan ja remontintekijän ilta” (building and remodeling) program, Master Builder Jukka Karila and Editor Maija Typpi, based on the following grounds: “Radio Suomi’s Rakentaja ja remontintekijä program offers consumers strong expertise in a direct-contact program. Master Builder Jukka Karila was the building expert for the program, possessing expertise in both remodeling and renovation problems. Jukka Karila’s extensive and diverse experience in the building industry and his background on the Finnish Construction Trade Union (RKL) mediation council are reflected in his moderate and rational advice. Editor of the Tiede (science) magazine, Maija Typpi’s, vast experience as an editor in the field of science and technology place building problems in a broader perspective and add some spice to the program." The recommendation for the recipient of the UICB building information award was made by the award judges of the Building Information Foundation board of directors, which included Chairperson Markku Salmi and chairman of UICB’s board of directors (the CEO of Rakennustieto Oy,), Aki Davidsson, chairman of the Building Information Foundation’s board of directors, representative from the Finnish Association of Architects (the CEO of Arkkitehdit Davidsson Tarkela Oy), Mika Valtonen, representative from the The Finnish Association of Building Owners and Construction Clients [RAKLI] (the CEO of Ovenia), Ahti Junttila, representative from the Finnish Construction Trade Union (RKL, CEO), and Reijo S. Lehtinen, representative from Rakennusteollisuus RT ry (attorney for Talonrakennusteollisuus ry).
